Biography

Gordon Mizzi is a Maltese composer. Educated in Malta, the United Kingdom, Italy and the U.S.A. He has composed a number of original works and transcriptions for the guitar.

Two Cd’s of Gordon Mizzi’s music, Song of the Sea and Saints and Fireworks have been recorded by the celebrated guitarist, Carlos Bonell,  and were enthusiastically received by critics and broadcasted by a number of radio stations all over the world, including the Cowan Collection on BBC Radio 3.

 Other albums, Gordon Mizzi -Kitarra  Guitarist Gordon Mizzi and Gordon Mizzi- Favoriti  Guitarist Carlos Bonell are another two albums released in 2023 as well as numerous videos which are available on social media.

Carlos Bonell speaking in his introduction to this music at a concert at the Manoel Theatre, Malta  on 22rd October 2002 said “it is a pleasure to play this beautiful music written by Gordon Mizzi.”

He has also written many articles for some of the leading guitar magazines. Many of his original compositions have connections with Maltese themes such as Island Scenes, Madliena Sonata,  Sonata for Six Mute Swans and Variations on a Maltese Theme  or transcriptions of the Branles de Malte commissioned by the Order of the Knights of St. John in 1551.

His original music and arrangements are published in two volumes by Mel Bay and are performed by leading guitarists all over the world.
